Advice for Parents Facing Hair louse
Problems in Kids
You don’t have to be a scientist to know what a hair louse
is and to find a way to treat lice. There are however, some
things you should know about treating hair louse problems
before you begin actual treatment.
Lice are a Common Problem
Even if you live in a high class town and shampoo your
child’s hair everyday, your child can still get infected with
lice. Most kids have hair louse problems and even your very
clean child can get infected just by sitting very close to
someone with lice or making head to head contact with someone
with lice. You shouldn’t wonder then if your child gets
infected. Lice are everywhere.
Emotional Support is Important
Some parents may tend to focus too much on ways to kill
lice. Sometimes though, it is equally as important to provide
emotional support for your child. You may have forgotten how it
was like to have lice when you were a child. Although lots of
kids have lice, your kid might be singled out and taunted if he
has a severe case of infestation. Having lice can be one sure
way to depress a child and make him lose his confidence.
There are Solutions
Parents shouldn’t lose hope when
confronted with a hair louse problem. There are many solutions
and products that can kill lice. You can choose among chemical
based products, manual methods or natural solutions. The real
challenge is finding the right one that will work perfectly for
your child.
Lice Can Become Resistant
There was a time when hair louse products worked all the
time. More and more parents are noticing though that there are
some products that just don’t work as well anymore. The real
reason for this is that some lice have become resistant to some
solutions because of the improper use and application of the
substances. A hair louse product should be used only as
indicated; otherwise the lice may develop immunity for the
product.
Patience is the Key
When lice become resistant to treatment, you may have no
other choice but to dig deep and kill one hair louse at a time.
This may be a gross and trying task but unless you want to
shave your child’s hair, it may be the only solution. Even with
effective treatments, you may still have to spend some time at
nit and hair louse picking because some lice and nits may have
escaped or survived treatment. Nit and hair louse picking is
simply a part of a parent’s life.
See a Doctor
Lice can usually be treated at home without the doctor’s
help. Sometimes though there are special circumstances which
may really require you to seek for a doctor’s advice. These
include lice on kids below three years old and lice on kids
with allergies and skin conditions. There are also times when
kids get infected due to too much head scratching. See a doctor
immediately if the lice persist for days and weeks and if your
child’s scalp begins to redden and become tender.
