Home Remedy for Head Louse Problems
Lice are extremely difficult to get rid of but it is not
impossible. Instead of just using chemical treatment, you may
instead want to use a home remedy for head louse problems. What
could be an effective home remedy for head louse
infestations?
Olive Oil
A simple home remedy for head louse would be to bathe the
scalp and hair with olive oil and leave the oil as is overnight
or approximately 8 hours. The oil is believed to have a
smothering effect on the lice. Others however recommend the use
of both olive oil and vinegar. In this second method, the olive
oil should be rinsed off with water in the morning before the
hair is washed with vinegar and left for a few minutes. The
vinegar can then be washed off with warm water.
Vinegar
In most cases plain vinegar alone is usually used as a home
remedy for head louse problems. Simply use the vinegar like any
other form of hair wash and rinse it off after 5 minutes. The
vinegar does not only dissolve nits and suffocate lice; it also
makes the hair easier to pull lice and nits from.
Mayonnaise
Another common home remedy for head louse infestations is
mayonnaise. Its use for lice however has many different
variations. One mayonnaise home remedy for head louse method
involves having to thickly coat the hair and scalp with
mayonnaise and wrapping it with soft plastic for an hour or
two. The hair should afterwards be gently combed and then
thoroughly shampooed and rinsed. Just like vinegar, mayonnaise
is believed to suffocate lice. The procedure may have to be
repeated five times in two weeks for best results.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can be used in much the
same way as olive oil as a home remedy for head louse problems.
Coconut oil though should ideally be massaged onto the scalp.
It can also be used as half of a mixture with typical lice
oil.
Garlic Paste
Garlic paste combined with a teaspoon of limejuice is also
believed to help kill lice. Simply apply the mixture on the
scalp and leave for half an hour after which the hair can be
rinsed with ordinary water.
Almond Paste
Just like garlic paste, this home remedy for head louse
problems can be made by mixing ten crushed almonds with two
teaspoons of limejuice. Similar to garlic paste, it should be
applied and left on the scalp for half an hour before
rinsing.
Mouthwash
It may be hard to believe but the strong ingredients in a
mouth wash solution may be a good home remedy for head louse if
used daily for two weeks. Mouth wash can be sprayed or rubbed
onto the scalp and left for a few minutes before combing and
washing.
Conditioner
Any typical hair conditioner may be used as a home remedy
for head louse problems. Applying conditioner and leaving it
overnight on hair that is not wet can make it slippery and easy
to comb through. This means that lice may not be able to firmly
grasp on hair strands when a fine comb is used on the hair. The
method though may have to be repeated for several times to be
effective.
