The Three Step Procedure to Louse
Treatment
Numerous products and home remedies offer different louse
treatment solutions. Sometimes though, even the best remedies
still fall short of completely eradicating lice. To make sure
that your louse treatment works, check if you have been
following the three step procedure.
Step 1: Kill with Louse Treatment
There are various kinds of louse treatment used to kill the
pests. You can choose between natural methods and over the
counter chemical applications. Over the counter chemical based
products can come in shampoos, lotions, oils, conditioners,
rinses, creams and many other forms. You can ask the doctor or
pharmacist for a good brand but the important thing is to use
any brand only as instructed and indicated.
Although chemical louse treatment solutions have been
formulated for safe use, misuse or overuse could put kids at
risk of getting too much of the chemicals on the skin. Kids
with allergies and sensitive skins may develop terrible
reactions to strong medication. Pregnant and breastfeeding
women and kids younger than three years old must also first see
a doctor before using a chemical based louse treatment.
Some parents may prefer using natural
louse treatment to avoid the risk and harshness of some
chemical treatments. Vinegar, olive oil, coconut oil,
mayonnaise, almond paste and garlic paste are some of the known
home remedies for lice. These substances are believed to be
able to smother lice and kill them.
To supplement louse treatment, a fine toothed comb may also
be used after chemical or natural treatment. Combing is one way
to make sure that lice that have grown resistant to treatment
or have somehow evaded treatment can be caught and killed
manually. Simply put a white sheet of paper beneath your
child’s hair to make it easier for you to catch and kill the
lice.
Step 2: Pick the Nits
The objective of step 1 is to kill the live nymph and adult
lice. Sometimes though, this step does not effectively take
care of all the nits that have been laid. This means that nits
can still hatch even after louse treatment and grow up as
another set of lice. Some experts believe that the only sure
way to get rid of nits is to patiently pick them out yourself.
Nits can be hard to see because of their small size and because
a lot of them are very close to the scalp. Make sure that you
have a good light source to help you with the task. Crush the
nits that you get hold of in between your nails.
Step 3: Clean the House
Even though lice die without food sooner or later, they can
still survive for some time away from the scalp. One way for
lice to spread is through the use of and contact with areas and
things with lice. Your child’s comb, clothes, pillows and bed
sheets may still hold some lice that may have fallen off. When
your child uses these things, the lice could get right back on
to the hair and scalp. So even if you have good louse
treatment, you might have to deal with the problem again
sometime soon. There is however, probably no need to spray the
entire house with insecticide. You simply have to vacuum some
areas and put your kid’s clothes and sheets in a washing
machine and dryer. Manually clean your child’s combs and
things.
